Brian is a Seattle native who has been playing music since he was but a wee lad. At a very early age, he began listening to his father’s extensive record collection and scrutinizing every little sound and nuance found therein. At age 10 he began playing trumpet, because he loved the band Chase and wanted to be able to do that stuff. All was going well, when at 13 he discovered how cool a really loud and fast guitar could be. While he kept playing trumpet, the guitar became his primary focus of study and he basically lived with the thing for the next 5 years. While not exactly the best thing for his social calendar, it did give him the time to learn “Stairway to Heaven” in all 12 keys and lots of Metallica songs. Special note: this was back when Metallica was actually good, Jaymz was still a raging alcoholic, and Krk hadn’t been given his Fischer Price My First Wah Pedal (see: every solo on the Black Album).
Sometime during 1992, Brian was hipped to this Canadian band called, “Rush”; perhaps you’ve heard of them. Through his new found infatuation with Rush and, coincidentally, Geddy Lee’s none-more-brilliant bass playing… he had found his true calling: beer…. Err, no, that wasn’t it. His true calling: bass. Not the kind you’d find in the ocean either, we’re talking that low-sounding instrument. While his intensive study of all things Rush didn’t help him get a gig, it did help him develop a great Canadian accent; he also looks rather dashing in a touk.
Brian got hired by a local band called Travis Shredd & the Good Ol’ Homeboys to fill bass duties after their original bass player disappeared under ‘mysterious circumstances’. He claims he was out of town when that stuff went down. Aside from his country/metal/rap adventures with Travis Shredd, Brian has also played in various jazz groups, original rock bands, and done studio work around town; including stuff for Bob Rivers’ Twisted Tunes. In the past year or so, he has gigged at the Superdome in New Orleans, the Bellagio hotel/casino in Las Vegas, and a private party at Penn Jillette’s house. One day, he hopes to play Hamlet, or maybe Othello.
While he loves playing all types of music, he agrees that nothing says, “let’s rock like no one has rocked before” like music from the 80’s. Although, if asked he will break out some Birds of Fire or The Black Page on your ass.
One day, he hopes to be as good as Danny Partridge because, “Man that guy shredded”.
